I was shocked this morning when I read what manufacturers are putting into our vitamins. I stopped buying many of the vitamin supplements years ago, just because they were not whole food vitamins. I never bothered to look up why, until this morning. Up until today, I knew that our bodies couldn’t recognize nor utilize many of the vitamins our body needed in the over the counter supplements. Thus it just got pee’d out. I don’t know why, but it didn’t enter my mind how it could be breaking down our bodies. A new fb friend sent me a video that sent me on an internet hunt for some truth. I found that the supplements so many of us have in our cubboards or still buy from our markets contain vitamins that have been synthetically manufactured. Manufactured from glucose (psssst GMO corn) using a chemical process involving microorganisms acetone. Just a heads up, acetone is a dangerous solvent and sodium hypochlorite bleach. Ummm HELLO?! How is this even ok! Would you be shocked if I told you the vitamin I looked up was Vitamin C? And on your label, it will have ascorbic acid right next to it.
Now if that didn’t bother the heck out of me, what I read next did. Supplemental Vitamin C as ascorbic acid can directly and even indirectly cause some very bad juju in our bodies. Look at this list…
- Enriched foods with iron can cause a reaction causing neurological conditions
- The American Heart Association says it can cause thickening of the arteries
- The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN) says it can cause loss of energy and endurance
- The AJCN also says it can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease in people with diabetes
- It scours other important minerals to be bio-effective, causing wider deficiencies
- Shows to cause higher risk of kidney stones
- It also kills good micros in our gut, suppressing our immune system and resistance to diseases
Take a look at this video and watch how they show the corn flakes we feed our families, have black iron filings added to the cereal so the company can claim it has the needed recommended dose of iron. Horrible, right?! Ascorbic acid reacts with the elemental iron in the body to form dehydroascorbic acid, an oxidizing free radical that has hostile effects on the neurons of the brain.
Eat a balanced diet with fresh fruits and veggies and it won’t be necessary to take vitamin c supplement. However, being that is hard to do for many busy lifestyles, make sure to look for a whole food vitamin. My husband and I take a whole food liquid vitamin from a health food store that has derived its vitamins from real foods plus they’ve added herbs, minerals and amino acids. When I take it, I can feel the difference and my pee does not change color, indicating I am not peeing out most of what I took.
Let me leave you with this
Check out Pyridoxine Hydrocloride (HCL) next to Vitmain B6 – comes from petroleum Esters, Hydrochloric Acid and Formaldehyde
Cholecalciferol next to Vitamin D – comes from eradicated lambs wool
If you’re like me, and I suspect that you are, I am frustrated that these companies are getting away with these dangerous little tricks and I have to research every damn thing I put in my mouth to see if it’s healthy? I do not have the resources (ehem, land) to grow my own food and thus need to rely on shopping wisely. I can see for many years I have not done so. Ok, I am done with my little rant, at least on here.
