Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal Fatigue

Your adrenals glands weigh less than a grape and are about as big as a walnut. These little power organs are responsible for one of the most important functions of your body – managing stress!

When these power organs get fatigued, a whole slew of symptoms hit you. It’s a condition called Adrenal Fatigue or Adrenal Exhaustion. Your entire body feels it and suffers greatly. It’s estimated that 80% of adults experience adrenal fatigue some time in their lifetime, yet it one of the most misdiagnosed illnesses in the united states. These power organs are located right above your kidneys and are considered to be part of your endocrine system. The Adrenals secrete more than 50 hormones throughout the day and are essential to life and quality of life.

Some of these hormones include

Glucocortoid hormone helps your body convert the food you eat into the energy you need. It normalizes blood sugar, responds to stress and maintains your body’s immune system’s inflammatory response.

Adrenaline hormone increases your heart rate and controls the blood flow to your muscles and brain. Like when you sense fear and need a quick boost to run like a panther.

Mineralocorticoid hormone keeps your blood pressure and blood volume normal. It keeps a proper balance of the sodium, potassium and water levels in your body.

They all work together to make a health and fit you. You can see why, that if your adrenals become fatigued, how many things can go loopy within you. Ironically, even though your adrenals are there to help you cope with stress, too much stress can cause these power house organs to break down. People with high stress jobs such as, Firemen, Policemen, S.W.A.T., Chefs, Doctors etc… often suffer from this illness as well as anyone who has been through a trauma, a major illness or surgery.

I have to say that I am thrilled that the medical community’s awareness of Adrenal Fatigue is growing! Not once in all the times I’ve seen a doctor that my adrenals were ever considered or talked about. Most people do not even know they have an organ called the Adrenals until they seek info for themselves, from the internet. I love the internet! I can find almost anything I need to know just by doing a google search!

The symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue are many and many of the symptoms are shared with other conditions. Our body works as a whole and when one part of our body gets sick, it affects the rest of our body too.

There is no definitive lab test for this debilitating condition, always be on the alert if you have any of the following symptoms.

Not everyone has all of the symptoms or conditions listed below. The number varies from each individual.
